The track is the singer’s first non-theatrical release since 2016’s Joanne, and follows her feature film debut in 2018’s A Star Is Born, which included the hit, “Shallow”. Fans have been awaiting “Stupid Love” since it was rumoured to have leaked over a month ago. The visual sees the singer channel her inner intergalactic punk, arriving in a hot pink co-ord – with a hot pink crew of dancers – to bring peace to a crystal-filled desert, after engaging in dance battles with versions of herself in an Alien-esque helmet and baby pink space suit. In a new interview with Beats 1, Gaga discussed working with A-list hitmaker Max Martin – who’s famously worked with the likes of Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande – for the first time on “Stupid Love”. She said: “I went to his studio and sat down at a piano, and I played ‘Stupid Love’ on a piano with chords. I looked at him and I said, ‘that’s what I’ve got for you’, and to me, this song can only stand on its two feet, even with a great track, if you can play it on a piano and it still sounds like a hit. And he was like, I love it, get in the booth. I sang it and what you’re hearing on ‘Stupid Love’ is what we did that day.” Discussing her upcoming as-yet-untitled album, Gaga added: “We are definitely dancing.
