Grimes debuts new track ‘4ÆM’ from Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack

The musician debuted the high-energy track at the Game Wards

Last night Grimes performed at the Game Awards in Los Angeles, where she unveiled a new song called “4ÆM”, which will appear on her forthcoming album Miss Anthropocene as well as the video game Cyberpunk 2077, in which she voices a character called Lizzy Wizzy, alongside Keanu Reeves.

Clothed in a billowing kaftan, the singer darted around the stage to the high-energy beats of the song, backed by silhouetted dancers. When, midway through the song, she straps on a gaming headset and then collapses, the performance then shifts to more of a commercial for the video game, scanning through digitally-produced realms where Grimes re-materialises as her in-game character Lizzy Wizzy; a genetically modified robot hybrid.

Grimes has always lived at the nexus of art and technology; from being hailed as “post-internet” when she first surfaced, the anime album covers she designs, her futuristic aesthetic, her association with Elon Musk, to this summer’s claims she had experimental eye surgery so she can no longer see blue. It seems like she would have entered the video game world a long time ago.

Miss Anthropocene is out in February, but you can watch the performance of “4ÆM” below, and hear the studio version on all DSPs now. Cyberpunk 2077 will be released in April.
