Directed by Eilish herself, the video sees the singer sat on a white bench in a white room, dressed in – you guessed it – white. As she looks down the camera and sings, hands appear from out of shot and burn her with cigarettes. The singer explained the inspiration behind the haunting song back in March during an interview with the Guardian. Eilish asserts she steers clear of drugs, but says the song’s message is “less ‘don’t do drugs’” and “more ‘be safe’” – an appeal founded in personal experience. “I don’t want my friends to die any more,” she said. “xanny” is the sixth track on the album to get a video, most recently following the apocalyptic visual for “all the good girls go to hell”. Sharing a clip on Instagram, Eilish said: “Go waaaaatch and make everyone you know watch.” The release also comes a month after Eilish shared her first new music since dropping her album. “everything i wanted” was written and produced by the singer and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, and is a tribute to the siblings’ bond.
