Listen to Charli XCX’s new collab with Troye Sivan, ‘2099’

The singer has dropped another track from her forthcoming album – out Friday

It’s only been a year since Charli XCX and Troye Sivan released the nostalgic anthem “1999”, but in the pop world, things move fast – a year in the normie world is about a century for those driving the future of pop. So, Charli and Troye have dropped “2099”, the latest single from Charli’s forthcoming eponymous album.

Worlds away from the unapologetic pop and cultural references of “1999”, “2099” is a futuristic electronic track, bringing to mind Blade Runner visuals – we’re sensing a pattern here.

Produced by longtime collaborator A.G. Cook – who also worked on “February 2017”, Charli’s recent collab with Clairo and Yaeji – the track was co-composed by Sivan, and is the latest in a long line of singles released from Charli. The singer previously shared songs with Christine and the Queens, Sky Ferreira, Lizzo, and HAIM.

Both “1999” and “2099” will feature on Charli’s third studio album, which is out on Friday (September 13) via Asylum and Atlantic UK, and is the follow-up to her 2017 mixtape, Pop 2

Listen to “2099” below.
