Watch Missy Elliott perform a career-spanning medley at the VMAs 2019

The Video Vanguard Award recipient played hits like ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’, ‘Get Ur Freak On’, ‘Work It’, and new single ‘Throw it Back’

Missy Elliott was the recipient of the Video Vanguard Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. At the VMAs ceremony on Monday (August 26), the rapper and producer performed a medley of hits, including “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly”, “Get Ur Freak On”, “Work It”, “Pass that Dutch”, and “Lose Control”, as well as her latest single “Throw it Back”.

The medley opened with “Throw it Back”, which came out on Friday (August 23) as part of her surprise Iconology EP. She then linked her new single with her very first single, segueing its bassline into “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” before moving through her hits in chonological order.

During the performance of “Work It”, Missy brought dancer Alyson Stoner on-stage. Stoner was in the single’s original music video back in 2003, then aged just ten years old.

As expected from Missy, the stage and costume design was suitably high-tech and futuristic, not least a sci-fi scarecrow look.
