Whether she’s taking a trip with a pair of giant blond-haired vaginas, creating clitoral configurations with a group of syncronised swimmers or performing gothic sex rituals atop a human boar, queer icon Peaches is synonymous with her vulva-loving aesthetic.
Now, the gender-fucking musician is back with her first-ever solo art exhibition, titled Whose Jizz Is This? that opened this weekend at the Kunstverein in Hamburg, Germany. Described in a press release as “taking a bold and unexpected approach to the topics of sex, feminism, queerness, gender, and new millennium politics,” the multi-diciplinary show will see “an amplified way of looking at and understanding Peaches’ universe and the critical thought that informs her work” through live performance, animatronics, sculptures, photography and film.
At its centre is a “deconstructed musical in 14 scenes” about a group of sentient sex toys called Fleshies who are on a “quest to find sexual equality among themselves”, away from human interactions. Called “There’s Only One Peach With the Hole in the Middle”, the 30-minute composition will see the toys – who are programmed with respond to Peaches’ voice – sing about their struggles. The Fleshies will be joined on stage by “13 musicians, ten performers and special guests, such as New York drag rapper, and long-time collaborator, CHRISTEENE, and London-based aerial performer Empress Stah. Following the Hamburg performance, the musical will travel to London, Aarhus and Berlin.
“Ever adept at boundary blurring, Peaches has created a show that combines live performance, music intervention, visual art and historical reflection,” concludes the press release.
