Music / IncomingClassixx in the MakingEmerging from the electronic music scene in L.A. so separate from the wave of indie bands, the DJ/production duo Classixx are making deliciously summery tunes to blur such boundariesShareLink copied ✔️September 18, 2009MusicIncoming The L.A. duo Tyler Blake & Michael David aka Classixx are banging out their balearic summer jams breeding electro with lighter nu-disco elements. Previous singles including the energetic 'Cold Act Ill' featuring the vocal samples of Roxanne Shante super-cut up, characteristic of their almost sleazy sound on their series of fuzzy electro tracks, whilst their remixes of Phoenix, Beni, and YACHT to Major Lazer take on more chilled and fluid sounds.Having played alongside acts like Justice and Peaches, to Steve Aoki, you can hear the electro influences in their latest single 'I'll Get You' ft. Jeppe of Junior Senior. Released on Kitsune with the video directed by the infamous Cobrasnake, the single also features a double A-side with Frankmusik on vocals.Dazed Digital: How would you describe your sound?Classixx: Our sound is sort of balearic and spacious sometimes, but it's also a little loose apart from a typically definitive bass line. I have a hard time with this question, I really don't know what our sound is, this is just what I've heard from people.DD: What do you think makes you different?Classixx: We don't come from a dance background, most of our friends that we tour with share that quality with us. I think people appreciate blurry lines in music.DD: What's your worst fashion secret?Classixx: Our friend told us to put baby powder on our hair when playing out to avoid looking like Andrew W.K. after an hour.DD: How much involvement did you have for the video with Cobrasnake?Classixx: No involvement, Mark made that video on his own.DD: 'I'll Get You' is such a great summer track, how did you come about to work with Jeppe for it?Classixx: Our friend Ron heard the instrumental, when I told him we were looking for vocalists he mentioned his connection to Jeppe from Junior Senior. Jeppe got involved, sang vocals and sent them back, it was basically effortless.DD: Having a prolific music scene in L.A., is there a noticeable divide between the dance music artists and the more rock-y/indie bands there?Classixx: Completely, unfortunately. Most indie rock bands in L.A. don't care much about the emerging electronic music scene, but it would be nice to see more eclectic line-ups etc.DD: Who are your favourite artists right now?Classixx: There are a lot to name.. firstly our friends Acid Girls, Harvard Bass, Holy Ghost!, YACHT, Dam Funk. I also like Miike Snow, Dirty Projectors. Some minimal stuff like Prompt and Stimming. Those are a few. DD: What are you working on now?Classixx: Working on a few original tracks, no release dates yet. Escape the algorithm!
