Stormzy earns his first UK No 1 single with Vossi Bop

‘I’m over the moon, I’m on top of the world’

Stormzy has reached yet another big career milestone, his first UK No 1 single, with his new track “Vossi Bop”, released April 25. The track won a fairly close race against Taylor Swift to reach 94,495 combined sales and streams, the second biggest opening week of any song this year (after Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings”, obviously).

“I’m over the moon, I’m on top of the world,” the grime icon told BBC Radio 1, when they called him up to break the news. “It feels weird, though. Very weird.”

“Vossi Bop” has also earned another accolade: with 12.7 million listens on streaming services, it’s beaten the record for most streams in a week for a rapper, topping Drake’s “In My Feelings” from 2018.

Stormzy will headline Friday night at Glastonbury this year – another huge achievement, of course – but we’re sure he’ll still have time for his publishing imprint and philanthropic work as well.
