Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig covers Little Drummer Boy

You might be able to spot some members of Haim in the background, too

Ezra Koenig – of Vampire Weekend, ofc – has taken to Instagram to share “a late night jam session in honor of the prince of peace”. The cover of what the singer calls a “top 3 Christmas song” is complemented by members of Haim – as Stereogum points out – though the poor video quality makes them a bit difficult to make out.

The cover itself is pretty good, but it’s definitely overshadowed by Koenig’s caption: “imagine that you come to see the messiah and he’s been given all sorts of regal gifts like frankincense and myrrh. All you have to give is...a drum solo. You only get one shot. Do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime. You wail on the snare for a solid 20 minutes. Paradiddles upon paradiddles. You collapse in exhaustion. Did he like it? It’s unclear...until he smiles. You killed it, drummer boy.”

Who knew drum solos – and Eminem lyrics – played such a big part in the Christmas story?
