Azealia Banks news is getting even more absurd. According to reports, the rapper was going to make Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey an amulet of his own hair as protection from ISIS, which threatened him in 2016.
It all started in 2016 when the pair agreed to promote each other's work, Spin reports; Dorsey would promote Banks’s mixtape Slay-Z while Banks would promote Dorsey's app Square.
Banks tweeted about the exchange at the time, but deleted her posts shortly after. “Jack Dorsey asked me to tweet about his cash app and in exchange he was supposed to tweet about my mixtape," she wrote, "(but) he never did.”
In another (now-deleted) tweet, Banks reportedly said: “he also sent me his hair in an envelope because i was supposed to make him an amulet for protection. i have 3 Strands of a billionaire’s hair. i should steal his luck.”
It was never confirmed by Dorsey that he actually did send his hair – he probably isn't too chuffed about it being public knowledge if so.
But a new Vanity Fair piece enlivens the rumour. In the piece, reporter Nick Bilton writes: “Once, a source who worked with him told me Dorsey had sent a rapper his beard shavings to make him an amulet that would protect him from evildoers.”
The case is now becoming widespread belief, seeing as it would be pretty weird for a former colleague of Dorsey to fabricate the batshit story. Plus, it wouldn't be out of place in Banks’s long history of witchcraft.
It also isn't the only time Banks has had a bizarre encounter with a billionaire. In August, the rapper sat in Tesla CEO Elon Musk's house waiting for Art Angel popstar Grimes, in an event that became a much-publicised scandal purely because of its absurdity. Banks said she wouldn't leave until Grimes finished a song for her new album, but eventually did.
