Grimes has been teasing new music across the last six months. Back in June, she shared some clips of an “ethereal chav jam” (whatever that is) and a “cheesy love song”, as well as a glimpse at prototype track listings. Earlier in November, she said a release of some sort was “imminent”. Three years on from her stellar album Art Angels, the musician has confirmed new music is dropping this week.
The announcement also came with the launch of a new merchandise line and web store. The merch drop includes a series of t-shirts with artwork by Grimes (AKA Clare Boucher). In black, white and pink, the shirts feature her name written in Russian and freaky, alien and fairy illustrations.
Writing on Instagram, where she has deleted all previous photos, Grimes said “!New music coming Nov 29!” A previously shared tracklist highlighted working titles including “Darq Souls” and “that’s what the drugs r 4”.
While we’ve been waiting for her solo work, the Canadian producer and singer has been doing some collaborative work with the like of Poppy, Mindless Self Indulgence’s Jimmy Urine, and Bring Me The Horizon. She also wrote the theme song for Netflix animated series Hilda.
