Donald Trump has never had much luck when it comes to finding support from musicians (barring the recent Kanye West mess; the less said about that the better). On the day he announced his run for President, for example, he played Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”, and was promptly told by Young it was not ok.
Also in 2017, 50 Cent revealed that he’d refused a $500,000 speaking gig for Trump, and this year the President received a cease and desist letter from Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, demanding he stops playing the band’s music. Now, the Prince Estate has had to pitch in too, asking that Trump stops playing Prince’s music after he used “Purple Rain” at a Mississippi rally earlier this month.
“The Prince Estate has never given permission to President Trump or The White House to use Prince’s songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately,” the Estate says in a statement. Prince’s ashes, we’re sure, are rolling in his bespoke Paisley Park urn.
