Iggy Pop premiered a new version of Bowie’s Bang Bang cover

The reworked song will feature on a forthcoming Bowie boxset

Yesterday (September 28) Iggy Pop premiered a previously-unheard version of David Bowie’s “Bang Bang” cover on his BBC Radio 6 Music show, Iggy Confidential.

David Bowie already covered Iggy’s tune (from the 1981 Party album) on 1987’s Never Let Me Down, but this version features new production, string arrangements (by Nico Muhly), and a guest appearance from American artist Laurie Anderson. It will feature on the upcoming Bowie boxset Loving the Alien, out October 21.

Following the song, Iggy Pop expressed his approval and said he “thought it was a really good reading of the lyric”. Listen to the song (and Iggy’s story behind the words) here, beginning at around 1:38:30.
