South Korean boy band BTS are record-breaking in their appeal to the west. In late 2017 they were the first K-Pop group to break into the US Top 30 and, in May this year, they were the first to top the Billboard 200 albums chart. Now, they’re continuing their takeover, dropping a new version of their song “Idol” with a rap verse from Nicki Minaj.
The track is part of BTS’s new compilation, Love Yourself: Answer (the culmination of their Love Yourself series) and was posted to Minaj’s Twitter. “Uh!!! What’s Good KOREA?!” Minaj captioned the post, maybe as an oblique reference to her infamous “Miley, what’s good?” feud.
Obviously, the release has caused a stir on social media, with speculations that the rapper could be joining BTS in a new “Idol” music video, with what appeared to be confirmation from Minaj herself (as seen in this Twitter post). There have also been suggestions that Minaj may join the group at their October 6 New York stop on the international Love Yourself tour.
Maybe the collab with the much-loved, Seoul-based boy group will bring Nicki some love after the string of controversies that have followed her Queen album release (including her giving a shout out to Margaret Thatcher and working with 6ix9ine).
