Courtney Love is set to be honoured at a ‘Pioneering People’ fundraiser later this year. ‘A Tribute: Celebrating the Magic and the Power’ takes place at Basilica Hudson in Hudson, New York on October 27 and will feature Love’s friend and R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, actress Chloë Sevigny, photographer Ryan McGinley, The National musician Aaron Dessner, and Girls actor Ebon Moss-Bacharach, among others. The event will raise money for Basilica Hudson, an arts space that also hosts festivals like Basilica Soundscape.
Melissa Auf der Maur, co-founder of Basilica Hudson and former Hole bassist, will serve as the event’s creative director and producer alongside artist Joe Mama-Nitzberg, who previously served as creative director for Hole’s Celebrity Skin album art.
According to the Basilica Hudson website, the benefit will feature “conversations, readings, videos and performances” that “shine a light on all of the ways that Love has influenced culture and inspired women and marginalised people”.
“Courtney’s legacy is vital to the voice of women in our culture. The passion she brings to her life and art fuels and inspires the long fought battle for the empowerment of alternative voices as they take centre stage at last,” Auf der Maur says in a statement.
She adds: “As the founder and frontwoman of the band Hole, and through her escapades as a Hollywood actress and all-around empowered voice for over three decades, Courtney broke new ground, combining lyrics of intellectual and intellectual acuity with music of a singular power to create a body of work with riveting emotional intensity.”
