Watch our film with Tierra Whack, Philly’s most exciting hip hop visionary

We meet the ultra-inventive, psychedelic rap artist finding fans in Solange, Vince Staples, and more

Tierra Whack is Philadelphia’s most exciting new artist. We first caught on to her when we heard her breakout track “Mumbo Jumbo” last year, an inventive release that acted as both a great piece of mumble rap and an inversion of the form. More recently she released the killer Whack World, an audio-visual project acting as both a 15-minute music video and 15 separate one-minute songs, finding fans from Solange and Vince Staples to hip hop super-producer Mike Will Made-It.

In a new film with the visionary artist, we travel to Philly with Tierra and drive around her old haunts as she tells us about her creative upbringing and why she never follows the crowd. “You can’t put me in a box, because then it’s just like, you’re not gonna get anything,” Tierra says in the documentary. “But if you just let me be free and be me, that’s when you get the best shit.”

Watch it above.
