Never one to shy away from sharing her opinions publicly, the musician took aim at drag icon RuPaul for allegedly plagiarising her on his song “Call Me Mother” on Saturday (June 2). In a series of tweets, Banks claimed that Paul had “ripped off” elements from her 2016 song “The Big Big Beat”. However, Spotify are backing her in this latest beef as she revealed her claims had led to the subsequent removal of RuPaul’s entire American album from the streaming platform. “Lol I got rupauls ripoff of the big big beat ... “call me mother” removed,” she wrote. “You will not step on my little black girl toes bitch. You will take your razor bumps and pumps to the nearest laser hair removal clinic and seethe. @RuPaul BYE UGLY.” She continued: “Now that I’m filing claims RuPaul wants to reach out. But where was that energy when you were stealing my work and using me as inspiration for your campy ass television show? I’m disappointed in him first and foremost as a black person. He was supposed to have my back.” The cool gays don’t collab with ppl like RuPaul LMFAO. RuPaul’s brand of whitewashed drag queen pagentry is late. He’s for middle America. I’m for the fashion houses. He can’t sit with me— CHEAPY XO (@cheapyxo) June 3, 2018Music ‘Rap saved my life’: A hazy conversation with MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt American remains available on iTunes, Apple Music, and TIDAL, but Spotify's policy is to remove any record from their platform when it is under investigation. There’s a warranted question over the track given that it does have the same beat, a similar melody, a similar flow and follows Azealia’s penchant for rapping over house tracks. Listen to both below.
