This week Los Angeles avant-pop sextet The Mae Shi released their new album HILLYH.

Dazed Digital: What does "mae shi" mean?
Jon-shi:
Before death.
DD: Top five favourite things about L.A.?
J:
The people, the weather, the music, the venues, Taco Zone.
Brad-Shi: In N' Out, the secret dog park under the Hollywood Sign, the Griffith Park Driving Range, the Pacific Ocean, Taco Zone.
DD: Top five favourite things about London?
J:
The people, the architecture, the music, the pubs, giant tubs of Turkish hummous.
DD: "Run to Your Grave" - or be cremated?
J:
I hope to see myself from out-of-body being hurled through the air in a puree of glory.
B: Burn me please.
DD: Your show has more stage changes than J-Lo - who is behind the T-shirt designs and where can we get them?
J:
The "I'm glad you're alive" T-shirt was designed by a guy named David Healy (a super cool dude!). We chose this design as living was such an inspiration for this last record. We have 'em at shows and eventually we'll have them on our website.
DD: What are the best L.A. bands we haven't heard of?
J:
Abe Vigoda, Bon Voyage, Kyle H. Mabson, Weekend Warrior, Bipolar Bear, The Pope, Anavan, The Epsilons, Bark Bark Bark, Team Andrew!
B: And Holi Buffaglo!
DD: What can we expect from your new material?
J: You can expect a extra super-rocking EP and HLLLYH to transcend your insides to a new and improved
candyland.
B: Hands across the world, Mae Shi style!
