The Stranger Things star paid tribute to a Lou Reed classic with his band Calpurnia
Besides his colourful acting career, Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard is also a talented musician. Having already rocked out on-stage with Mac DeMarco, covered everyone from New Order to Guns N’ Roses, and co-directed a music video, he’s also formed his own band, Calpurnia. On Friday (January 12) the Vancouver group performed at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade NYC, where they covered a Velvet Underground classic.
“This song goes out to Lou Reed,” Wolfhard told the audience during a performance of “Here She Comes Now”, taken from the 1968 album White Light/White Heat. A video of the cover was captured by Rolling Stone.
Calpurnia are currently recording their first EP, and the Brooklyn show saw them debut a handful of the original songs they’ve written for it. Otherwise, their set consisted of other covers, including the Pixies (“Where Is My Mind”), Weezer (“El Scorcho”), and Twin Peaks (“Butterfly”).
“Here She Comes Now” was covered by Nirvana in 1991, which may have been where Wolfhard found the inspiration to take on his own version of the track. “I love Nirvana, Joy Division, and New Order – older alternative, I guess,” he previously told Dazed.
