The song was inspired by the death of Keith Scott who was fatally shot by police in North Carolina last year. Keith’s wife witnessed the tragedy and filmed it all on her phone as she cried, “Don’t do it. Don’t don’t do it Keith. Don’t don’t do it.” While the song naturally has serious darker tones of police brutality, that classic refreshing N.E.R.D style we all love is still present throughout. And though it may be the end of 2017, this is just the beginning for N.E.R.D’s comeback. Following the success of their crisp banger “Lemon” featuring mega superstar Rihanna, Pharrell and his crew have big plans for their forthcoming fifth album and have also collaborated with Gucci Mane, Future and M.I.A to name a few. Pharrell told Beats 1: ”The thing that was ironic for me is when she’s saying to her husband, don’t do it, don’t don’t do it. Don’t do it Keith. I’m thinking to myself, all of these unarmed African American motorists – when you do what the authorities ask you to do, I wonder before you die if your conscience says that to you, or asks you or suggests to you, ‘Don’t do it, don’t do it’. When they tell you to pull over, I wonder if Philando Castile, in his mind, was thinking, ‘Don’t pull over’.” Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MOREBloodz Boi: The humble godfather of Chinese underground rapA rare interview with POiSON GiRL FRiEND, dream pop’s future seerNigeria’s Blaqbonez is rapping to ‘beat his high score’Inside Erika de Casier’s shimmering R&B universe ‘Rap saved my life’: A hazy conversation with MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt7 essential albums by the SoulquariansIs AI really the future of music?playbody: The club night bringing connection back to the dancefloorAn interview with IC3PEAK, the band Putin couldn’t silenceFrost Children answer the dA-Zed quizThe 5 best features from PinkPantheress’ new remix albumMoses Ideka is making pagan synth-folk from the heart of south London
