The track, titled “Losing Your Mind”, is a remake of CAN’s 1972 single “Vitamin C”, and is – in the words of Raury himself – all about being a “weird kid that’s fly”. Lurhmann’s 12-episode series, which premieres on Friday, follows the birth of hip-hop in late 70s’ New York. It stars Smith as a teen graffiti artist, as well as Shameik Moore, Justice Smith and Herizen Guardiola. Unsurprisingly, given the theme, the accompanying soundtrack is set to feature a number of big names; with Miguel, Zayn, Malay, Nile Rodgers and Leon Bridges all confirmed on the tracklist. Nas and Grandmaster Flash – who both produced the series – will also be included. “This album is an introduction to the many musical genres and styles that can be heard in The Get Down, which is really a story of New York in the late ’70s, an incredibly fertile time of creativity amid chaos,” said Lurhmann in a statement. “While our production is a musical that embodies many classic hits, we also use contemporary sounds and techniques connecting the dots between then and now. My great privilege is to have associated with such a diverse musical community.” Listen to Jaden Smith and Raury’s collaboration (played from about 04:56) below: Escape the algorithm!
