While it’s not clear if the song was recorded before or after the highly publicised events in the R&B singer’s personal life, it’s hard to read it in anything but this context. The song opens with the words “It’s okay to not be okay”, with the rest of its lyrics encouraging listeners to be honest with their feelings and with themselves. “I don't know nobody who thinks they're somebody 24/7 / I don't know nobody who smiles at everybody 24/7”, Kehlani sings on its hook.
