Stereogum report that Grimes has given a Q&A in the newest edition of Rolling Stone where she explains that she’s “halfway done” with a new record. “I’m not committing to anything, but I have a bunch of b-sides I kind of want to finish,” she explains, “Plus, I’ve been making a bit of new music.” Though the interview is a little bit confusing — it’s hard to tell when Grimes is talking about her new material and when she’s talking about her unreleased b-sides — the suggestion is that the b-sides could appear on an expanded version of Art Angels. “You know how Lana Del Rey put out Paradise Edition after Born To Die? It would be like that. There are songs I seriously considered for Art Angels, but they fucked with the momentum when I tried to put them on the record.” As for the new music she’s been making, Grimes describes the tracks as a bit more relaxed than what appeared on Art Angels: “With Art Angels, it was all like [growls]. This would be more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y shit. That makes it sound boring. It’s not boring.” Escape the algorithm!
