Teaming with biblical undertones and obscure messages about mortality, his last album, Blackstar, was filled with mysteries that many can’t unravel. After all, Lazarus – the name of Bowie’s final single – was also the name of the saint resurrected by Jesus in the Gospel of John. Could he have been planning a strange, otherworldly comeback of his own? Well, potentially, yes. In an unexpected twist, it seems like he may have actually planned his very own kind of Lazarus-like return. According to reports in Newsweek, the icon prepared a number of anthology records, as well as potential new tracks, to be released in the years after his death – with the first apparently set for 2017. “(There is) a long list of unscheduled musical releases that Bowie planned before he died,” a source told the magazine, adding that they “have been divided into eras and will not necessarily be released in chronological order.” “It is not yet known whether they will contain previously unheard work, though past rereleases of Bowie’s work have.” Whether this is true or not is yet to be confirmed, but it seems quite likely. Since the singer died earlier this month, there have been a number of treasures rising up to the surface – including this gem of Bowie impersonating Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. “Bowie only gave you just enough of everything to still keep you hungry,” writer and collector Kevin Cann told Newsweek. “Blackstar has only come out recently, which is enough for the moment. There’s plenty of time for other things.” Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MORE‘The unknown is exciting’: Why Gorillaz’ upcoming album is all about deathThe 20 best tracks of 2025, rankedSalomon SportstyleLord Apex brings together community for 20 years of Salomon’s ACS PROThe 20 best albums of 2025, rankedThe renaissance of Zara Larsson: ‘I’m out of the Khia Asylum’The 10 best music videos of 2025, rankedListen to our shadowy Dazed Winter 2025 playlist7 of Chase Infiniti’s favourite K-pop tracksMeet The Deep, K-pop’s antihero ‘This is our Nirvana!’: Are Geese Gen Z’s first great rock band?10 of Yung Lean’s best collabs‘We’re like brother and sister’: Yung Lean and Charli xcx in conversation
