Her debut album Flash fused modern alt-pop with with the snap of 90s R&B, and her new track “Another Love” – our first taste of her second album – is a fizzy guitar-flecked pop jam which deserves to come with a video involving a roller rink, strawberry sundaes and handclaps. It seems to mark a turning point for DENA, who tells Dazed that she’s currently “exploring new sounds and collaborations” for the follow-up to Flash. On his track she collabed with Canadian producer/ songwriter Mocky, who co-wrote “Floor Show” and “Do It Again” on Kelela’s Cut 4 Me mixtape. She explains: “I sent him my piano demo and he took the tune to a whole new level, still keeping the original organic feeling of the tune, but transforming it into his beautiful musical version, playing all the instruments himself. Some additional drums were done by P. Morris rounding up the vibe of this song.” Most excitingly, the track’s a sign of the laid-back, well-crafted pop to come – and with DENA’s open minded approach to music, who knows what other gems she’s sitting on.
