Pornhub, that's who. The porn website – which gets an average 40 million views per day – has announced its move into the music industry with the launch of Pornhub Records. "We've always seen a strong music presence from the beginning of Pornhub," Pornhub head of PR Matt Blake told Billboard. "Artists upload their own stuff, like uncensored tracks and R-rated versions of songs. Some people come in and upload exclusive videos, so it creates a buzz for them." He's not lying: 2014 has seen artists like Coolio, Falty DL and Xiu Xiu premiere their work on Pornhub. Xiu Xiu's "Black Dick" video is one of the most NSFW music videos out there, while Coolio reportedly signed a deal with the website this year, allowing Pornhub the exclusive on any of the rapper's new material. To promote the launch of Pornhub Records, the site is also on the hunt for the label's "anthem". The Song Search Contest is a call out to all artists, except "boy bands or teen-pop", says Pornhub vice-president Cory Price. You don't have to be particularly XXX-related to enter, either. "We're looking for acts that aren't necessarily porn-focused," says Price. "We're an ad-based network looking for content that appeals to our demographic. Mature lyrics for an adult audience." The winner of the Song Search Contest will receive a $5,000 contribution towards the making of a music video to be exclusively featured on the site. With Pornhub's hit count way into the millions, that isn't an amount of exposure to be sniffed at. However, Matt Blake is adamant that the winner is by no means guaranteed a record deal. "A&R is a work in progress," says Blake. "Right now it's all about forming relationships and understanding how this all works. We're focused on distributing through the platform and digital sales." For the moment, Pornhub is a net label with ambitions to move into distributing and selling physical copies.
