The city's rising hip hop princess on weaves, nails and NikesShareLink copied ✔️May 7, 2014MusicMy ObsessionTextKathy IandoliPhotographyRyan Lowry Taken from the spring/summer issue of Dazed: As Chicago continues to remind us that there’s some sonic freshness blowing through the windy city, rapper Dreezy stands as the newest hot chick on the block. Her diverse Schizo mixtape veers from buoyant pop hooks to tough rhymes, but it’s in “Zero”, her ice-cold ode to Benjamins with local flygirls Katie Got Bandz and Sasha Go Hard, that she stunts in her slick weave, nails and trainers and delivers. As she preps for a major label debut, Dreezy’s time in the lab is taking a front seat over shopping time, but she still makes time to bring the freshness in her aesthetic. Here she breaks down some of her loves that make us love her. It’s seriously hard not to anyway. PRO-NAILS “When I’m not in the studio, I love doing my nails. I’ve got a friend named Chardae. She does all of my full sets and the different designs. We’ll just be going there and freestylin’ on them. My favourite was a mole on my nail, like a Monroe.” GONE WITH THE WEAVE “My hair is always a different colour. I work with a lady named Kiwanji. I get all my weaves from her. I had red, then ombre to blond, then purple, then black with honey-blond streaks. Right now my hair is long like Pocahontas. I don’t know what I’m doing next. Something crazy though.” ONE MIKE “If you’re talkin’ Jordans, we call ’em Mikes. I like to have ’em early, before anybody. I ain’t gonna lie. I have my plug stores. My uncle works at a City Sports out here. Or sometimes I’ll go to different Foot Lockers, and if they know who I am, I’ll get a discount.” Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MORESekou is the 21-year-old baritone making 70s soul cool againDon’t Be Dumb: The top 5 features on A$AP Rocky’s new album The rise of ‘Britainicana’: How Westside Cowboy are reshaping UK indieR!R!Riot is Taiwan’s pluggnb princessWhen did UK underground rap get so Christian?
