Music / IncomingPrins Thomas RecommendsThe Norwegian electronic producer, now working under the guise of 'Prins Thomas Orkestra', gives us his recommendations on where to go and what to seeShareLink copied ✔️August 16, 2011MusicIncomingTextAmah-Rose McKnight-Abrams Norwegian Dance musician Prins Thomas was one of the many attractions at the recent Øya Festival playing with Prins Thomas Orkestra. Also working under Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and Major Swellings, his music has been described as space disco and is just really good, dancing music peppered with enough random influences to keep the muso in you happy. Can you recommend... A City...... Oslo. Huk beach in the summer, the Kon-Tiki museum just around the corner, amazing three-course dinners at Olympen(or Lompa as the locals call it) on Grønland street, a beer or three in Dattera til Hagen's lovely backyard then on to Blå by Akerselva(river) for a Laphroaig then through the door for somyae dancing. If you manage to get up early next morning go watch the tourists on Karl Johan then on to Tronsmo for some books and comics and Råkk & Rålls for the mandatory trawl through the second hand bins. Yay, another copy of that Abba album for £3... A Destination...... Rome. I'd go there for the food at Cul de Sac alone. The greatest little enoteca I've been to. Check into your hotel then take the first taxi to Piazza Pasquino 73. Have them pop a fresh bottle of prosecco and ask for the St Nicholas Bacon... Three Bands to Check Out...... Dungen - If you haven't heard them then go buy all their albums... then go check them out live. Explosions in the Sky - Just heard them last night at Øya festival here in Oslo. No idea what they call their style but The Shadows without prozac came to mind. Which can only be a good thing... Prins Thomas Orkestra. Obviously.... Three DJs...... DJ Harvey - He surely doesn't need more recommendations or praise but still number one. Go check the internet for the crazy cult. Aphex Twin - Saw him play at Øya festival again last night. Thought it was gonna be a live show but was even more positively surprised he went straight for the jugular. "Nunk". "House of God" and lots of crazy English rave and Detroit techno. And if you haven't already heard Prins Thomas then I'd recommend that highly. No reason being modest as I'm playing ALL the great records and always in the correct order (wink, wink). A Website...... I live most of my life outside the computer and the most visited website on my computer is this dagbladet.no. Unfortunately, nothing juicy... A Club...... BLÅ in Oslo. It's where I've had my residency on-and-off for about 14 years. A Novel...... Anything by James Lee Burke, Michael Connelly, George Pelecanos or Robert Crais A Film...... The Fantastic Mr. Fox A Classic Track...... "Melody Nelson" by Serge Gainsbourg A New Track...... "No Church in the Wild"by Jay Z & Kanye West A Record Label...... Mexican Summer, Golf Channel, Brutal Music, Kompakt, Mathematics, Not Not Fun Your Favourite Waste of Time...... Jon Stewart's Daily Show and Louie CK Escape the algorithm!
