Since the war in Iran broke out almost a fortnight ago, Israel has taken the opportunity to escalate its military campaign against neighbouring Lebanon: almost 700,000 people have been displaced, as the UN reported yesterday, and over 570 have been killed by air strikes, including 86 children. As well as attacking southern Lebanon, where it has focused its efforts in the recent past, Israel has increasingly been targeting the capital city, Beirut, where it has destroyed residential buildings, bombed a hotel in the city centre and ordered the evacuation of 500,000 people from its southern suburbs. 

The long-running conflict between Israel and Hezbollah (a political party and paramilitary group based in Southern Lebanon) erupted again after Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel last week, in response to the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. There had, in theory, been a ceasefire in place between Israel and Hezbollah since November 2024, but Israel has continued to bomb Lebanon since then. Even though Israel never actually respected the ceasefire, the bombardment it has enacted this past week is still a significant escalation. 

There are various organisations on the ground in Lebanon helping those who have been injured (an estimated 1313) and displaced. As the conflict shows no signs of slowing down, these groups need all the help they can get. Below you’ll find a list of groups you can donate to, all of which are doing vital work, providing meals, shelter and medical care.

LEBANESE FOOD BANK

Lebanese Food Bank is a non-profit which, as the same suggests, provides meals and ready-to-eat kits to displaced people in shelters across the country.

EGNA LEGNA BESIDET

Egna Legna Besidet is a collective run by Ethiopian migrant workers based in Lebanon, which particularly focuses on women. It is now raising money to help migrant workers find shelter, food and safety

BEIT AAM

Beit Aam is an alternative community space in Beirut, which has now paused its cultural activities to operate as a relief hub for displaced people, offering food and vital supplies like blankets and mattresses.

ENDLESS MEDICAL ADVANTAGE

Endless Medical Advantage operates mobile medical clinics across Lebanon and Syria. It is organising an emergency response to the current situation in Lebanon, providing primary healthcare and medication for displaced people.

LEBANON SOLIDARITY COLLECTIVE

A network of various independent grassroots groups, Lebanon Solidarity Collective is coordinating mutual aid funds which will directly support displaced families and individuals.

BARZAKH BOOKSHOP

Located in Hamra, a neighbourhood in Beirut, Barzakh Bookshop has launched an emergency response, providing as many meals per day as possible and other vital supplies to people who have been displaced.

LEBANESE RED CROSS

The Lebanese Red Cross is organising a large-scale and desperately needed medical response, providing ambulance services, blood support and relief assistance to the thousands of people who have been injured and displaced.
