To say the least, Keir Starmer has never been particularly cool. But yesterday he cemented his reputation as the UK’s most boring politician after leaked documents revealed that the government is considering banning smoking from a range of outdoor settings, including beer gardens and nightclub smoking areas. Starmer confirmed that the government was considering the proposals yesterday afternoon (August 29).

Naturally, the news has come as a blow to socially stunted, nicotine-addicted twenty-somethings everywhere. We’re already in the middle of a loneliness epidemic – how on earth are we expected to make friends without asking to borrow a lighter in the smoking area? How are you meant to flirt with someone without offering them a cig? More importantly, what am I supposed to do with my hands when I don’t have a drink to hold?
