She also went on to say “you do fuck [all] about anything” and called him “free loader on the public purse”. She allegedly went on to warn Starmer that she was planning to report him to standards watchdogs, threatening him by writing “Your life won’t be worth living.” “You get elected leader of. Non party and within two minutes I get an email calling me a racist from the housing ombudsman I’ve already complained about you to the standards commissioner who guess what also does nothing. See from now on il l complain about the slightest little thing,” she wrote. According to The Sun, other emails saw Harvey taunt Starmer over the deaths of two of his relatives and refer to his wife Victoria using an ableist slur. “God she looks dreadful. Dreadful,” she wrote in one message, referring to Victoria. Sir Keir is MP for Holborn and St Pancras, close to Kilburn where Harvey lived in 2020. In some emails she also abused Labour MP Tulip Suddiq, and on one occasion referred to Angela Rayner as an “imbecile”. An email sent on March 27 2020 — sent to Starmer and with SNP MP Pete Wishart copied in — also made homophobic references concerning Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. In another email sent in May 2020 she referred to then Prime Minister Boris Johnson as an “eton [sic] twat”. Like the messages sent from ‘Martha’ in the show, Harvey’s emails are written in a distinctive, chaotic style, with numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes. All 276 emails were signed off “Sent from my iPhone”, though in the show it’s suggested that Martha types out this signature manually and in reality does not own an iPhone. The Sun report that the Met Police are aware of Harvey’s messages but have not provided further detail. Baby Reindeer has sparked controversy in recent months, after viewers began speculating online that Harvey was the inspiration behind Martha due to the many similarities between the two. Many have criticised Netflix for failing to sufficiently anonymise Harvey. “As the beneficial owner, Netflix ultimately bears responsibility for preserving Real Martha’s anonymity. Real Martha was an abuser, she was not sufficiently anonymised, she has been on the receiving end of a barrage of targeted harassment, and she is vulnerable,” journalist Daisy Steinhardt wrote in a Dazed article published last month.
