Britney Spears has explained her reasoning for posting several near-naked pictures on Instagram. 

The musician has been embroiled in an intense, media-dominated legal battle for control of her estate, which has been in the hands of her father, Jamie Spears, for the past 13 years, giving him and others authority over her personal life, finances, and career. 

Just last week, Jamie Spears agreed to step down from his role as her conservator. According to legal documents, he “intends to work with the court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

In her most recent Instagram post, the “Toxic” singer posted a sweep of topless images of herself in white bikini bottoms and red boots holding a rose in various poses. “Before I show you more pics of my body... I want you to understand my thoughts on exposing my skin,” she said in the caption.

“I bet you’re wondering why I’d expose my body NOW… well it’s because I was born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the would has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way,” she added.

“I wanted to see myself in a lighter way…  naked... like the way I was born and to me looking back at my pictures when I shoot it’s insane the psychology in seeing myself in my purest form gives evidence that pain... hurt... tears... and heavy burdens aren’t who I am. I am a woman… a beautiful... sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form.”
