I just decided to do something on my own’ShareLink copied ✔️February 15, 2021February 15, 2021Text Günseli Yalcinkaya The internet’s favourite fake heiress Anna Delvey is launching her own vlogging channel. Anna Delvey TV sees the notorious scammer pivot to influencer territory with a series of vlogs documenting her life following her release from prison last week. In a recent interview with Insider, Delvey – real name Anna Sorokin – said she wants to reclaim her narrative from the media. “So many people I see are trying to tell my narrative,” she explained, “I just decided to do something on my own”. She added: “I just got out of prison, like two days ago. So it‘s me getting all this stuff from Sephora, me opening a bank account as soon as I get permission from my parole officer. I‘m going to see my parole officer Tuesday for the first time. Things like that. It‘s a way to control what I want to tell.” Best known for lying her way into exclusive social circles and parties, and conning rich attendees out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, Delvey served four years in a New York correctional facility after being convicted of fraud in April 2019. She was found guilty of scamming more than $200,000 (£145k) from banks and luxury hotels. According to Delvey, she “never (planned) on defrauding anyone”. “I feel like it‘s an insult to my intelligence,” she said. “Like the whole case that the prosecutors created against me. They presented me as being this thirsty and greedy. I just had this vision. And it didn‘t work out.” The 29-year-old also told Insider about her forthcoming book, which will feature her “take on the criminal justice system and (her) jail experience”. Reflecting on her crimes, she said: “I have to deal with the consequences of my actions, yeah. But to just sit around and just think about everything I've done – it‘s not going to have changed it. I don‘t know. It would be a huge waste of my time.” While we await the launch of Anna Delvey TV, actor Julia Garner has recently opened up about playing the infamous con artist in the Netflix series, Inventing Anna. Garner said that in researching for the role she visited Delvey at Rikers Island prison, where she’s currently serving out her sentence. “The only thing that I didn’t expect is that Anna is really funny,” she said. “She’s actually hysterical. And she’s super soft-spoken and gentle. Going into any part, you can’t have too many negative thoughts because you don’t want to start with the character judging them.” Escape the algorithm!
