Meet the Dazed 100 talents getting their ideas funded

From an underground plant trade to a document of post-Covid Britain, and more

Since 2014, the Dazed 100 has identified wave after wave of emerging creative talent from the worlds of fashion, music, art, and activism. Dazed 100ers – from Timothée Chalamet to StormzyGreta Thunberg and Tyler Mitchell – have gone on to win Grammys, lead game-changing fashion houses, receive Oscar nods and make history. Alongside spotlighting the 100 names changing culture in 2020, this year’s list sought to push beyond personalities, gathering 100 creative and philanthropic projects – talents’ own manifestos for change.

To make these projects a reality, Dazed partnered with Converse to create the Dazed 100 Ideas Fund, a £50,000 pot to financially support Dazed 100 talent. After weeks of audience voting, and digging deeper into the stories of the people profiled on the 2020 list, we can finally reveal the Dazed 100ers selected to bring their creative projects to life.

Chosen with the help of your votes, the four ideas receiving funding are: London-based DJ, presenter, and producer Henrie Kwushue’s ‘Untold Stories’ film series, which will hire young people from underprivileged backgrounds to work behind the scenes; NYC-based DJ and gardener DJ Freedem’s Underground Plant Trade and plant care workshop series; south London photographer Alfie White’s photo essay on the people whose lives have been affected by Covid-19; and NYC-based model, artist, and YouTuber Ella Snyder’s photobook documenting the transgender community and her place within it. Hit their names to revisit their profiles, and read more about their ideas.

In addition to the four projects, the grant will be used to support four digital workshops. A series of online workshops and talks coming in August 2020, the Dazed 100 Academy will present sessions led by four London-based Dazed 100 names: musician Beabadoobee will teach songwriting; photographer Danika Magdelena, aka Sirius Film, will host a panel of women creatives discussing the effects of lockdown on their work and mental health, plus 1-to-1 sessions with some young photographers; musician Joy Crookes will run advice and guidance sessions aimed at helping young people of colour enter the creative industries; and model Deba will host a dance class and a panel on careers in fashion for young women of colour.
