Intelligent, determined, and galvanising, Greta Thunberg instills a deep fear in right-wing men, including America’s biggest baby Donald Trump. A week on from her impassioned speech at the UN climate summit, the president is still hurling insults at the young climate activist.
Yesterday, Trump retweeted a post calling Thunberg an “actress”. The tweet was posted by a Trump supporter last Monday, mocking the activist’s emotional address at the summit. “What an actress! ‘I should be in school.’ She’s getting the best education socialism can steal,” the tweet read. “I won’t be held hostage by someone who just got a learner’s permit. Sorry kiddo! Tell Al to try again.” Quote tweeting the post, Trump enthused: “Keep up the great work Kellie!”
The post comes just one week after Trump shared a clip of Thunberg’s speech in New York on Twitter, with the caption: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!” But Thunberg – not one to suffer fools – temporarily included Trump’s mocking comments in her Twitter bio, in a clapback of colossal proportions.
During her UN address, the 16-year-old condemned world leaders for their “empty words” which threaten to undermine the growing climate crisis. “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth,” she told the audience. “How dare you.”
