Okay!ShareLink copied ✔️July 17, 2018July 17, 2018TextKemi Alemoru The only relatable thing about mega-rich tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is the fact that he also likes Grimes – and that, despite his busy schedule, he still has time to tweet utterly inane shite. Last week, the world was gripped by the news of the Thailand cave rescue mission, but somehow Elon Musk made it about him. It all started when the Tesla CEO put forward a host of suggestions to rescue the 12 young boys stuck in a cave in Thailand, including the construction of a miniature submarine. Many dismissed his ideas as impractical and a publicity stunt and Mr Musk's plan was reported to have been called "not practical" by Narongsak Osatanakorn, who has been co-ordinating the mission. That report came after some criticism of the plan from people who argued that the relatively large submarine would not be able to fit around the tight cave network the boys had to navigate. What followed was a week of slightly unhinged claims, insults and complaints from Musk. Here’s a quick rundown. HE TRIED TO SAY BEING CALLED A BILLIONAIRE IS A SLUR Apparently it’s really really hard being a having a massive net worth as people use it against you. When the press, along with people actually working on the mission, failed to take his cave rescue plan seriously, Musk felt oppressed. “The ‘billionaire’ label, when used by media, is almost always meant to devalue and denigrate the subject,” he tweeted. He essentially tried to claim that billionaire was a slur. “I wasn’t called that until my companies got to a certain size, but reality is that I still do the same science and engineering as before. Just the scale has changed,” he said on Twitter. We can confirm that absolutely no one felt sorry for this apparent instance of “name calling”, given that it is factually correct. THEN HE CALLED ONE OF THE THAILAND CAVE HEROES A PAEDOPHILE Musk sent a series of now-deleted tweets in which he accused Vernon Unsworth, a 63-year-old volunteer who was crucial to the rescue, of being sexually attracted to children. In the tweets he only referred to Unsworth as the “British expat guy who lives in Thailand”. “I challenge this dude to show final rescue video. You know what, don’t bother showing the video,” he wrote in one tweet before replying to himself. “Sorry paedo guy, you really did ask for it.” SO OF COURSE, HE IS NOW BEING SUED (PROBABLY) Unsworth told the Guardian on Monday he was “astonished and very angry” at the online abuse he had received from a very rich tech billionaire. “I believe he’s called me a paedophile. I think people realise what sort of guy he is,” he said. When asked about whether he would consider pressing charges against the billionaire for damaging his reputation he reportedly responded, “Yes, it’s not finished.” BONUS: MUSK ALSO DONATES CASH TO THE REPUBLICANS In the same month that he refused to pay an artist for an image he used of a farting unicorn, it has now been revealed that Musk was a major donor to a Republican political action committee. He took to Twitter to explain that he only donated $40,000 to Protect the House to “maintain dialogue” and that he is definitely “not a conservative”. This massive financial contribution isn’t the billionaire’s first connection to President Trump’s Republican party. He previously served as an economic adviser to controversial leader last year, before pulling out because of a difference in opinion on climate change – rather than, you know, Trump’s overt racism.
