The post-apocalyptic thriller follows trans women Beth and Fran as they evade testosterone-mutated men and murderous TERFs, all while continuing their transitions. On Friday (11 October), Felker-Martin shared her excitement on X, saying she’s “proud” and excited” to be writing the adaptation. Manhunt, celebrated for addressing transgender narratives in apocalyptic fiction, has been hailed as one of the best horror novels of recent years. When speaking with Felker-Martin in June about her third book, Cuckoo, the author told Dazed about her love of body horror, explored in both Manhunt and her third book. She finds “body horror really cathartic to write when I’m angry about something” – specifically, the societal mistreatment of queer people. The cat's out of the bag, baby. I'm adapting MANHUNT for TV with Lilly Wachowski, and I couldn't be prouder or more excited to be writing it. We're going to do our damnedest to bring this thing kicking, screaming, and queer as hell onto the screen.https://t.co/rBQgetGHei— Gretchen Felker-Martin (@scumbelievable) October 11, 2024 Wachowski, renowned for her commitment to queer storytelling, promises that the adaptation will be “kicking, screaming, and queer as hell.” Beyond Manhunt, Wachowski is also adapting Jordy Rosenberg’s Confessions of the Fox, a reimagining of 18th-century thief Jack Sheppard, with her partner, as a “a response to all of the horrible anti-trans stuff that’s going on in the world.” With these projects, Wachowski continues to push boundaries, bringing bold and unapologetically trans narratives to the big screen.
