Sam Mendes has reportedly cast the leading roles in his series of upcoming Beatles biopics.

According to The InSneider, the four films will feature Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Charlie Rowe as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

Reactions to the unconfirmed rumours have been mixed. One user on X quipped that Mendes must have gone to the “Twitter School of Casting”, while another joked that the “casting director is a chronically online girl”. Others were more optimistic. “Barry Keoghan’s Ringo is going to be crazier than his Joker I can FEEL IT”, one user shared. Another wrote: “Paul Mescal as McCartney is gonna unlock something so insufferable and crazy and annoying from the depths of my soul give it to me NOW”.

These rumours have not yet been confirmed by Sony, which will be distributing the films.

Back in February, it was announced that Mendes will direct four Beatles biopics, each told from the perspective of one band member. “I’m honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes said in a statement at the time.

The films will “explore each Beatle’s unique story and to bring them together in a suitably captivating and innovative way” added Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps Ltd.

The project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

All four films are set to release globally in 2027.
