Another Elvis biopic. Luckily, Sofia Coppola and A24 have us covered with Priscilla, a newly-announced film based on the 1985 memoir of the eponymous actor, businesswoman, and former wife of the King, titled Elvis and Me. The film follows Coppola’s 2020 comedy On the Rocks, and was also adapted for the screen by the Oscar-winning director. The story told in Elvis and Me follows Priscilla Beaulieu Presley’s intimate account of her life with Elvis – who she married in 1967 – including details of their promiscuity, drug use, and the decline of their relationship leading up to their divorce in 1973. Priscilla Presley is set to be portrayed by Cailee Spaeny (Vice, The Craft: Legacy), who has been Coppola’s first choice for the role since day one, as reported by Deadline. Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi will play Elvis, meanwhile, following Austin Butler’s widely-praised portrayal of the rock and roll star in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic. Priscilla will be Sofia Coppola’s third collaboration with A24, with the production company previously involved in On the Rocks and The Bling Ring. A television adaptation of Edith Wharton’s Custom of the Country is also in the works, marking the filmmaker’s first foray into episodic TV. A release date is yet to be set for Priscilla, which is scheduled to start filming in Toronto this autumn. Escape the algorithm!
