Last month, actor and writer Mindy Kaling teased her latest project, titled The Sex Lives of College Girls. Co-created by Justin Noble (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and starring Pauline Chalamet , Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, the HBO Max comedy series will follow four college roommates as they navigate the trials and tribulations of being a college student: relationships, parties, identity crises, and lots of sex.
Now, in anticipation of its November 18 release, the first full-length trailer is officially here – and TBH, it’s as chaotic as we expected.
Opening with a rumoured walk of shame home from the library, the trailer sees the main characters debating the attractiveness of a young Stalin, dressing up in caution tape for anything-but-clothes themed parties, and attending an unsettling sorority recruitment soirée as Doja Cat’s “Boss Bitch” plays in the background.
We also see a look into the show’s plot as Chalamet’s character, Kimberly – who hilariously gets a pillow thrown at her for saying sex should be “an expression of commitment” to someone you love – falls for the brother of her roommate – Upper East Sider Leighton, played by Rapp.
The trailer wraps up with all four roommates attending a naked party (because what else), as “sex-positive” Bela spray-tans abs onto herself, before debating “which group of butts looks more approachable”. We’re here for it.
Kaling – whose Netflix series Never Have I Ever drew attention for its inclusivity – credited The Sex Lives of College Girls’ all-female writing team for the show’s diverse casting and unique storylines. “We stacked our writers room with truly incredible staff that is almost entirely female – all different ages, all different walks of life,” Noble told Variety at a press panel. “They were all brilliant and so smart and funny and great and they contributed to each of these characters in such huge ways.”
The first two episodes of The Sex Lives of College Girls will drop on HBO MAX on November 18. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
