Now, HBO president Casey Bloys has confirmed that a “special COVID episode” is in the works. Just days into preparing episodes for its second season, Euphoria was among many shows where production was halted in March due to coronavirus. While filming is scheduled to restart in early 2021, an intermediary episode will help bridge the long gap between season one and two, according to Deadline. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August, Zendaya told host Ben Platt that the producers are working on an episode that can be done with limited crew. “We might end up doing a little bridge episode,” she said. “I don’t really know how to describe it, but an episode that we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment… so we have something to live on until we are able to go into season two.” She added: “We were headed into season two and we had done table reads and wardrobe fittings and all kinds of things and then obviously everything happened and we got shut down, literally like two days before we were about to start the first day of shooting.” Anticipation is high for the second season of the show, after Zendaya made history this week as the youngest-ever Emmy winner for Best Lead Actress in a Drama for her role as Rue, with Euphoria also taking home the awards for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
