Watch Saoirse Ronan become an ‘honorary Derry Girl’

The Lady Bird actress joined the sitcom’s cast in a social-distanced sketch for Irish Comic Relief

The cast of Derry Girls has linked up with Lady Bird actress – and Dazed cover starSaoirse Ronan for a new, social-distanced sketch for RTÉ’s Comic Relief.

The sketch in question initially features the hit sitcom’s leads – Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Nicola Coughlan, Dylan Llewellyn, and Louisa Harland – panicking about meeting Ronan (over Zoom, ofc) and presenting her with a “brilliant idea” to raise money for charity.

Predictably, there actually is no “brilliant idea”, leaving the Derry Girls to brainstorm one before Ronan joins the call (a brainstorming session that includes a not-so-subtle dig at Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” video, and a fantasy involving Normal People’s Paul Mescal and Fleabag’s Andrew Scott, aka the Hot Priest).

In a subsequent tweet, Coughlan refers to Ronan as a “four time Oscar nominee and now honorary Derry Girl”.

Coughlan also directs viewers to the Irish charities supported by the Irish Comic Relief, which aim to help those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic. As of early this morning (June 27), more than €5 million (or over £4.5 million) had been raised, as shared by RTÉ.
