Anna Delvey conned, tricked, and charmed her way to the very top of New York’s social elite, convincing friends, celebrities, and unfathomably rich businessmen to fund her lavish lifestyle. Now her jaw-dropping story is due to be told in a Netflix series with Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie both reportedly interested in the lead role.
Netflix has bought the rights to the New York Magazine article that detailed Delvey’s rise to the top, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” and have tasked Shonda Rhimes – known for Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder – with writing it.
Delvey was living the American dream, floating effortlessly through the upper echelons of high society in the hustle and bustle of New York’s Soho district, staying in $400 a night rooms for months on end, dropping $100 tips without care and finding herself at parties with the likes of pharma bro Martin Shkreli, and Macaulay Culkin of Pizza Underground fame.
Now, though, the con artist who fraudulently applied for loans worth millions of dollars and whose hotel room was lined with bags of Acne and Supreme, is currently sitting in the rather less glamorous Rikers Island prison in New York, awaiting trial.
