The S/S11 collection contained decidedly formal pieces, such as morning jackets, waistcoats and bow ties. But – as the live gigging band The Duke Spirit proved – Yohji Yamamoto knows how to add a layer of punk to his clothes. Chains, studs and guitar prints all testified to a hard outlook on life. The extremely over sized trousers on the male models were also quite attention grabbing; only a pair of strong suspenders held them up. As per usual the collection was predominately monochrome but a few spots of moss green, beige and red made its way into the show. Biker jackets appeared regularly and a few pieces came with Yoko Ono quotes to finish off the musical theme. “I’m a rocker at heart”, said Yamamoto. Escape the algorithm!
