Former architect and Helmut Lang employee Siki Im talks Dazed through inspiration and favourite clothes from his childhood

Germany-born designer Siki might have ended up in New York, but only after spending a few years in London. Studying architecture at the prestigious Oxford School of Architecture, he then moved on to NYC where he worked with several architecture firms before changing to his current fashion career. After working for a few established designers, Siki set up the eponymous label, and hasn't really looked back since....

32, living in New York City

How long have you been designing?
Since my Lego days...

Why menswear?
It's easier for women to wear than the other way around

What inspires you at the moment?
The weather here and La Haine

What was the inspiration of your last collection?
The fallen Wall Street / The New Wall Street?

Have you worked for any other designers in the past?
Yes, such as Karl Lagerfeld and Helmut Lang

What was your favourite outfit from your youth?
My Starter Bulls jacket, 501's, Nike Air Force, Stussy wool hat (when I was 12)

What are your plans now?
After this, finishing my coffee and try to edit fabrics

What is your dream job?
I like mine but it would be great to design a church!

I'm doing some graphics and styling, and music as well.
