There’s a sleepy city in the northwest corner of Spain that is quietly shaping modern fashion. A Coruña is home to Inditex, the world’s largest fast-fashion retailer, with a portfolio of brands including Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Stradivarius. Most of the city’s population works for one of them, and if you were to take a stroll through its streets, you’d discover nine Zara stores in A Coruña alone.

It’s an unusual place, but aside from the influence of the fast-fashion giant, it’s also a city that’s rich with culture. It’s known for its world-famous seafood, the Tower of Hercules (the oldest working Roman lighthouse on the planet), as well as the MOP Foundation – the non-profit library and exhibition space that provides the city with a dose of luxury fashion.

Thanks to MOP, A Coruña has become the unlikely Spanish hub of fashion photography. In the past, it has hosted exhibitions dedicated to the work of Irving Penn, David Bailey, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz and Steven Meisel, but this autumn, it’s the turn of Sheffield-born photographer David Sims

From November 22 2026, until May 1 2027, MOP will celebrate Sims’ work through the new major exhibition: The Hamster Becomes The Problem. The work featured will reflect the photographer’s career in an abstract, unexpected and non-chronological fashion, spanning more than three decades. “Over the course of his career, his images have brought together the people, attitudes and cultural movements that have defined generations, creating a body of work that remains as influential today as when it first appeared,” says Marta Ortega Pérez, founder and chair of the MOP Foundation.
