Next year will mark a decade since Selfridges opened its Corner Shop, the curated pop-up space that hosts a rotating door of designers. Situated on the department store’s ground floor, surrounded by the world’s most luxurious accessories, it’s a spot that’s undergone a major transformation in the past nine years. We’ve seen takeovers from the world’s biggest brands: Dior, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Versace and Loewe, to name a few, as well as independent labels such as Machine-A and Martine Rose.

It’s become somewhat of a badge of honour for brands to have their moment at the Corner Shop, and earlier this week, it was Coach’s turn. The American luxury leather goods company didn’t just transform the space; it transported us back to the Cretaceous period with the help of a giant green T rex. The dino (named Rexy) also doubled up as a slide that customers could take turns on, shedding light on the installation’s name: ‘The Charm Playground’.

Over the past few years, bag charms have emerged as one of the biggest accessories trends – whether that’s decorating your handbag with a silk neck tie, or a Labubu (may they rest in peace). Known for its must-have handbags, Coach creative director Stuart Vevers has leant into this trend, designing his own range of charms so customers can personalise their Coach handbags. At Selfridges, we got to see those trinkets on a much larger scale, blown up to massive proportions. Giant apples, pretzels and New York taxi cabs made the space look like a scene from King Kong, only missing the giant ape.

The Charm Playground is open from now until May 22, so you’ve got until then to get down to Selfridges and have your turn riding Rexy.
