There is nothing more euphoric than a night out. When the music and company are perfect, there isn’t anything in the world like it – and Diesel’s AW26 collection specifically homes in on that feeling. In a world where crafting and puzzles are gaining popularity as an antidote to our phones, Glenn Martens reminds us that going analogue doesn’t actually mean we have to stay at home all the time – we can be (gender-neutral) party girls instead.

On the Milan Fashion Week catwalk, the show opened with a rumpled, crumpled white tank top and recycled denim jeans, and the rest of the collection followed suit with distressed, wrinkled knits, stiff denim coats, ripped-up jeans, and long-sleeved shirts. Clothing that looks well and truly lived in, which made them even fresher and more exciting. In his pre-show notes, Martens stresses the importance of nightlife and how it inspired this season’s clothes. “The collection is about waking up in a place, with no idea what happened last night, and you are the most glorious person ever,” he said. “When you sneak away from the hotel room of the person you don’t know, you are truly at your best.”

The models walked out surrounded by the brand’s past, present and future, as around 50,000 pieces of archival Diesel memorabilia – fake zebras, condoms, flamingos, martini glasses, aliens, horses and more – glistened around them. Like the use of recycled denim, Diesel highlights that its mantra ‘Successful Living’ doesn’t just include what you wear, but also protecting our environment through reusing, reducing, and repurposing. The collection also stressed that a party girl should never leave the house without a striking and structured pointed shoe (or potentially a pumps, brogue or mule sandal).

Among the collection’s playful experimentation – from the vibrant yellows, oranges and greens to the fluffed-up wool and alpaca coats – Diesel unveiled their new D-One bag with handles that turn into multiple-buckled straps and ‘D-mentional’ curved frames with logo temples.
