The DJ/producer/multi-instrumentalist and label owner clearly didn’t have enough on her plate, so began the event as a means to distil the “raw, uninterrupted energy of rave culture” into nights of queer liberation, as she told us last year. Named after Caillet’s own record label, since its inception Smiile has brought that unfiltered ethos to cities across the globe, with parties at major clubs in London, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Miami and Barcelona. This summer, however, the rave returned to Ibiza – where the Parisian DJ now calls home – for a complete takeover of the iconic Pikes, featuring a roster of acts like Jennifer Loveless, Gabrielle Kwarteng, Bashkka and Roi Perez. As the sun set on the island paradise, photographer CaptureCharles headed down to Pikes club Freddie’s to snap all the action, and caught revellers in slogan tees and sweat-drenched sportswear cutting it up on the dancefloor. At the event, Caillet’s guests beat the heat in shredded beach dresses, denim hotpants and mesh vests, while biker boots and jorts clearly remain a going out classic, even in the Balearic humidity. The accessories also made a strong showing, with every other guest sporting a pair of oversized, wraparound shades, stacks of gold and silver jewellery slung around necks, and one person even paraded their SS03 Dior Columbus bag above their head for all to see. Elsewhere, skin-tight baby tees, cowboy hats and kitschy prints featured heavily throughout, with guests rocking leopard, tiger and heart-covered dresses on the dancefloor. Multiple people at the party had got the sportswear memo, with track tops, Nike Shox and gym shorts practically everywhere (the Total 90 resurgence is in full swing, it seems) – but the night’s winner had to be Caillet’s own Smiile merch, worn proudly across the party, and even by the woman herself.
