They’re an all-or-nothing type of breed, either feigning disinterest with a sneering shrug, or latching onto something with fervent zeal. At this season’s Paris Fashion Week men’s, the latter was on full display, with the SS26 showgoers transforming into a flock of fashion magpies, approaching self-styling with a bird-like passion. Taking cues from the metaphorical magpie who obsessively collects shiny things, this season guests were seen with stacks of silver jewellery ascending each arm, piles of watches weighing down each wrist, and fingers full of rings gleaming in the sun. Black satin collars came studded with shiny silver pins, belt loops were adorned with chunky jewellery, while one showgoer even had a big bird cage in case any of the magpies got a little fresh. Elsewhere, more pins were fastened to shoes and bags and pillbox hats, one guest’s Airpods were wrapped in a spiky silver casing, while a particularly adventurous showgoer wore a top made entirely from chains, necklaces and metal straps. But though the shiny jewellery was the main way this season’s guests communicated their obsessive tendencies, that wasn’t the only one. The bag charm trend – which shows no signs of abating – saw people strap their accessories with an excessive amount of trinkets; the dreaded Labubu was also spotted across town, their owners known to be absolute fanatics; while, elsewhere, another woman took her love of fags and Coke to the extreme, collecting crushed cans and discarded butts to adorn her outfit with.
